Michael Smith
Dr. Michael Smith is director of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) World Headquarters Programs Team. He manages a budget in excess of $1 million for the strategic development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all academic, technical, leadership, international, and pre-college programs. Prior to joining the headquarters staff, Dr. Smith held a number of positions within the NSBE membership, including the position of national treasurer (1995–1997) and the Chairman of the 1999 National Convention Planning Committee.
Prior to NSBE, Dr. Smith worked as a program coordinator and instructor at the University of Missouri-Rolla and Texas A&M University. He built his technical expertise at such well-known companies as DuPont, Phillips Petroleum, and Amoco. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering from University of Missouri-Rolla and an engineering doctorate in chemical engineering and engineering management from Texas A&M University.
